Physical therapy in Missoula, Montana

Physical therapy for skiers, climbers and hunters

Trailhead is a small clinic for people whose weekends are on snow, rock and trail. We look at how you move and plan care around the season you are heading into.

Jagged mountain peaks lit by morning sun, reflected in a still lake with low mist

Four seasons, one plan

Care that follows the seasons

What your body needs before ski season is not what it needs before elk camp. Pick the season you are training for.

  • Snow-streaked peaks reflected in a calm alpine lake
    December to March

    Ski and snowboard

Turns, lift lines and the odd fall add up. We look at your legs, hips and back under load, and plan the weeks before your next day on snow.

    Ski and snowboard care
  • A climber's chalk-covered hands, ready to climb
    April to October

    Climb

Fingers, elbows and shoulders carry the load on rock and plastic. We look at how you pull, hang and rest between sessions.

    Climbing care
  • A small figure sits on a cliff edge above a forested mountain valley
    May to October

    Hike and run

Long descents are hard on feet, knees and hips. We watch how you walk and run on the ground you train on.

    Trail running and hiking care
  • Sunlight falls across a mossy boulder beside a forest trail
    September to November

    Hunt and pack out

Early starts, steep ground and a heavy pack on the way home. We build the strength and the carry for long days.

About the clinic

A small clinic with a mountain habit

Trailhead is owned and run by Corazon Bautista, a physical therapist who works with skiers, climbers and hunters.

You see a physical therapist at every visit, not a rotation of staff. Appointments are long enough to talk through your plans, look at how you move and leave with a few things to practice.

  • A physical therapist at every visit

  • Exercises you can do in a garage, a hotel room or a trailhead lot

  • Plain words about what we find and what we do not know yet

How a visit works

From the first question to a plan you can follow

Your first visit is about an hour with a physical therapist.

  • 01

    We listen

Tell us what you do, what you want back and what your next trip or season is.

  • 02

    We look

We watch you move and test strength and range, then explain what we find.

  • 03

    We plan

You leave with a plan that fits your calendar and an idea of what decides how many visits.

  • 04

    You practice

A few exercises you can do anywhere. We adjust them at the next visit.

“Nobody rushed me. We went through how I pull on the wall, and I left knowing what to change.”

Questions

Before you book

Do I need a referral?

In Montana you can start without a referral. Your plan may still ask for one, and the front desk can check before you book.

Does my plan cover physical therapy, and do you take Medicare?

We bill many kinds of plans, including Medicare, and tell you before you book whether we are in network with yours. The fees page explains how this works.

How long is a visit, and who treats me?

Your first visit is about an hour with a physical therapist, and you see a physical therapist at every visit after that.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on what we find, what you want to return to and how the first weeks go. We tell you what we expect after your first visit and review it as we go.

What should I wear and bring?

Clothes you can move in, the shoes you train in, and any gear that matters to your question. Bring your insurance card if you use one.
